The first thing I did for my magazine was look at other magazines that were aimed at similar target audiences because I wanted to get an idea about what they were like and what the design of them was like.
Then I drew drafts of what I wanted my magazine to look like, I tried to make it different from all the others I had looked at because I didn't want it to be exactly the same as all the others.
After planning them I started making them, I used photoshop for my front cover and contents page and I used indesign for my double page spread.
I started with my front cover and made a plan of where everything was going to go on photoshop so then when I had my photos and knew what I was going to write I could just add that in.
Whilst designing my pages I also started taking the photos for my magazine. I took a lot of the photos used on my first photoshoot for the magazine but some of them didn't look write when they were actually on the magazine so I had to take some more, which also helped add more variety to the magazine because before all the photos were very similar and you could tell they were all taken at the same time.
The pages of my magazine changed a lot as I was making them just because I either didn't like the way things looked or I changed my mind about them, I ended up starting again quite a few times.
The front cover was the page that took the most time because it would be the first thing people saw of the magazine and obviously it had to look right, it had to be eye catching and able to grab peoples attention.
I based the contents page off of other music magazines contents pages but I also tried to make it different because I didn't want it to be an exact copy.
My double page spread also took a while to get right because it was important it looked like a double page spread and all went well together, rather than just two separate pages that were just put next to each other.
